Nutrition
Tomatoes are a good source of Vitamin C, Vitamin A, folacin and potassium Greenhouse Tomato production in Kartlos farms include both cluster (truss tomatoes) and beefsteak (individual)tomatoes. In Kartlos Farms, we normally harvest and sell tomatoes as complete cluster of 7 to 10 tomatoes still attached to the flowering truss.

Tomatoes: A concise history
Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) originated in South America and because of its value as horticultural crop, it is now grown for food throughout the World. The cherry tomatoes originated in Central America and are the direct ancestor of the modern cultivated tomato. Our Cultivar selection is based on colour, taste, shelf life, disease resistant and high yield potential under greenhouse conditions.

Greenhouse Tomato cultivars
Tomato cultivars can be grouped into determinate or indeterminate based on their growth nature. Determinate cultivars produce a system of branching that has a limited growth to a final form of a bush while the indeterminate cultivars produce a system of branching that has theability to grow indefinitely. Kartlos farms greenhouse tomato cultivar are indeterminate and we provide constant maintenance and supports to the tomato plants to enable them produce fruit indefinitely.

Cherry tomatoes (golfball size)
Cherry tomato produce small fruits, they grow well in greenhouse and are disease resistant, they make a delicious addition to salads, very sweet tomato with excellent flavor, we normally harvest 50 days after transplanting (DAT)

Heirloom Tomatoes
Beefsteak is an indeterminate tomatoes, very large fruits, weight about 1 pound, and matures 80 DAT.

Hybrid Tomatoes (Better boy)
Betterboy is ready to harvest 65 DAT, it is an indeterminate plant and grows well in our greenhouse. The fruit is perfect and ready for slicing on sandwiches with juicy content , the weight is 2 pounds.

Anna F1 tomato variety
Anna F1 tomato variety matures relatively fast, gives high yield and resistant to tomato diseases, deep red in colour with egg shaped fruits, the maturity is 77 DAT.

Fertilizer and substrate used
Our team delivers adequate organic nutrient solutions to the tomatoes throughout its productive life. We have also embarked on changing nutritional requirement of our tomato plants as they grow to maturity and fruit production. The Electrical conductivity (EC) level of tomato medium is monitored and capable of providing adequate and balanced nutrition throughout the plant life cycle. We grow on well fertilized, well drained soilless (substrate) culture system.

Attention
Since all our tomatoes are grown in greenhouse, wind and insects cannot pollinate, we normally use hand operated electric vibrator method once a day after the flowers’ petals open, we support all our tomatoes with twine to ensure the stem do not break. In the nearest future we are considering special bees to mechanically agitate tomato flower clusters to acquire pollen and thus accomplish pollination Daily routine check is carried out on pests, disease diagnosis is carried by our research team if pest or pathogens are present, we don’t use chemicals to control disease rather we embark on early and proper sanitation, eradication, elimination and exclusion principles.
